I offer these all year long in a bluebird feeder. The best part is when adults bring the fledglings around. - Sunday, March 11, 2007Bird Crub Reviewed By: Maryann Carson (Birmingham, Al) Bird grub is incredible-not only has it attracted 2 families of blue birds-but an amazing sight to me - my cardinals will eat them too! You never hear about cardinals eating anything but seed. As to my blue birds they have remained year round for the last two years. When their young are born it is wonderful to be able to see them bring the young to the grub feeder. Worth the extra effort!! I recommend the grub highly. - Tuesday, March 27, 2007A Great Response! Reviewed By: Deb (Alexandria, MN) I highly recommend providing Grub for the insect eating birds, especially during nesting season. I have Black-capped Chickadees that are nesting already. I was not sure how they would react to roasted caterpillars since I provide them with live mealworms, but the response has been great. I put some in tray of a window feeder, and When I cannot be around to give them the live mealworms, they come to the tray and get the grub instead. I have White-breasted Nuthatches also that gobble them up. - Wednesday, May 02, 2007Bird grub Reviewed By: Heidi (Southlake, Tx) I LOVE bird grub. I am on my 2nd batch of Eastern Bluebird babies and they love this treat. They wait for me everyday to put out some grubs for the babies. The male is trying to teach the 1st batch of fledglings how to land on the dome feeder to get their food. It is funny watching the babies try to navigate the landing. Chickadees, Titmice and Woodpeckers also enjoy the grubs. The trick is trying to keep Starlings from eating them all before the bluebirds get there. I use them all year round. - Wednesday, July 25, 2007Bluebird heaven Reviewed By: Barbara (Concord, MA) I have been offering Bird Grub year round since last summer, during which I had 3 broods of bluebird babies! Much to our delight, 'my' bluebirds over-wintered and are now on their 3rd brood of babies. Of course, the chickadees, tufted titmice, downy woodpeckers and Carolina wrens love this stuff too! It took some ingenuity to keep starlings and grackles from gorging; I took a 'squirrel-proof' suet feeder and replaced the suet holder with a cut down plastic cup. Problem solved! |
