Reviewed By: Jena (Madison Heights, Virginia) This Nature's Feeder is our most active feasting spot year round. Woodpeckers, nuthatches, carolina wrens, bluebirds, and, yes, the occasional squirrel (usually hanging upside-down!) are regular customers who love the hi-vitality dough I push into the holes. The feeder has lasted several seasons, and birds enjoy this feeder much more than the "Forest" plastic version because of the natural bark for clinging feet. Highly recommended, good for all seasons! - Wednesday, May 14, 2008Nature's Feeder is the BEST Reviewed By: Jeff Rycus (Columbus, OH) I bought one of the hand-carved Nature's Feeders several months ago. They say it takes awhile for the birds to find and accept the feeder. Well, Woodpeckers, Blue Jays and Starlings were hanging off the feeder that same afternoon. Since then , the feeder has also attracted bluebirds. The only problem is that the birds empty the feeder every other day. So, I purchased a second hand-carved Nature's Feeder. Then, some varmint (probably a raccoon) climbed the pole and ripped one of the feeders out of the screw that secured it. They say that the Hi-Vitality food has cayenne pepper in it to deter critters other than birds. Well, it didn't deter this critter. I still haven't found where the critter took the feeder. The feeder simply disappeared. So, I'm buying two more Nature's Feeders w/ Hi-Vitality Dough. The feeders are natural wood cut from hard wood tree limbs. So, there is a natural weathering process that occurs. The activity of the birds hanging on the feeder also tends to loosen the bark over time. I also much prefer the texture of the Hi-Vitality Dough to fill the feeders. The Stix are also great, but the Dough is more cost-effective if you don't mind the extra work. I thought that the Crumbles were just too messy and not any less expensive than the Dough. Just be prepared to get hooked on this feeder. The birds absolutely love it! - Friday, January 30, 2009secure your feeder Reviewed By: ctqwn (olympia, wa) I had to laugh when I read Jeff R.'s review, because I had my feeder "stolen" by a varmint, too. It was most likely a raccoon that made off w/ mine (because it happened during the night), and I looked all over for it w/ no luck. That is, until months later when I had my back deck torn off so it could be replaced. There was the feeder revealed, not more than 15 ft. from the gate post where it had been hanging. I'd recommend hanging it from a hook so it's not so easy for a "robber" to take. The fact that it's made from an actual branch probably makes it more appealing to the downy woodpeckers that visit mine. Read More Reviews |
