Bird Grub Feeder
Bird Grub Feeder
A convenient way to offer Bird Grub to insect-loving birds.

  (4 customer reviews)

An economical feeder that is constructed of heavy, UV-resistant plastic with a large 4.5-cup capacity that means fewer fillings. Add a serving of Redi-Meal Mealworms (below) to this feeder to provide the necessary fat, protein and potassium that insect-eating birds need to maintain their high energy levels. Only small birds can dine at this feeder, and they enjoy clinging onto the seed tray while feeding on this gourmet treat. The locking lid removes completely for easy cleaning and filling. Easy to hang from hook or branch.
Measures 7-3/4"H x 6-1/2"W.

poorly designed
Reviewed By: Lydia Selwood (Broadway, VA)
I was very disappointed with this feeder. After filling it, and hoping to see my favorite little birds enjoying the feast, I saw hordes of starlings gobbling up the bird grub ... the grubs are very expensive! I am reluctant to buy more bird grub until I can place it in a better-designed feeder, to actually feed the birds I am trying to attract -- bluebirds, woodpeckers, etc. I don't mind feeding starlings and grackles - they too want to live! But I would prefer to feed them something less expensive For them, I like to put out cracked corn, "scratchfeed", and leftovers from my kitchen -- far away from my feeders -- to keep them occupied elsewhere!)

Not as advertised

Starlings are quite capable of and anxious to feed on the grub at this feeder. Feeder should be less expensive than it is...and it doesn't do the job of preventing large birds from feeding. I feel that offering grub in this feeder is expensive and ineffective.

Large birds love it too

I also found that the starlings and even some bluejays were gobbling up the grub in record time. They found a way to hang on to this feeder and empty it. The small birds that I wanted to feed were chased away by these larger birds. Even some of the wire cages made to go around bird feeders and even suet feeders aren't enough to keep the larger birds away. I started mixing some grub in with the seed and currently have it in a feeder where I can adjust how much weight the perches will hold to try to keep some of the larger birds at bay. I don't mind feeding the larger birds, but I would also like the smaller birds to have some food.
