Reviewed By: Sharon Hamersley (Columbus, Ohio) I bought this feeder hoping to attract more warblers and other small insect feeders. The bird grub is very expensive, and unfortunately starlings are able to help themselves (despite what the description states.) They can clean it out in about 1/2 hour and I can't chase them off all the time. So I put out very small amounts and just hope the "little folks" get there first. Most of the time the starlings chase them off, unfortunately. - Saturday, February 07, 2009Large birds love it too Reviewed By: Donna (Northeast, PA) I also found that the starlings and even some bluejays were gobbling up the grub in record time. They found a way to hang on to this feeder and empty it. The small birds that I wanted to feed were chased away by these larger birds. Even some of the wire cages made to go around bird feeders and even suet feeders aren't enough to keep the larger birds away. I started mixing some grub in with the seed and currently have it in a feeder where I can adjust how much weight the perches will hold to try to keep some of the larger birds at bay. I don't mind feeding the larger birds, but I would also like the smaller birds to have some food. - Friday, March 16, 2007Not as advertised Reviewed By: Rose (Chicago, Illinois) Starlings are quite capable of and anxious to feed on the grub at this feeder. Feeder should be less expensive than it is...and it doesn't do the job of preventing large birds from feeding. I feel that offering grub in this feeder is expensive and ineffective.
